In our last article, we focused on the rise of the virtual world and how quickly our world has adapted to the changes with virtual events becoming much more prevalent. This article is to provide some fun options for virtual events you may not be aware of – previously, the focus would be on geographic area and location. Now, we can transcend those barriers and participate from anywhere!

Netflix Party – Netflix party is a Google Chrome plugin that allows groups of friends to watch a movie together, from a distance! Once everyone has installed the plugin, one person sends a link to all those participating, a chat window opens, and everyone can chat while watching the movie – it’s almost as if you’re all there together! I’ve been hosting a movie night almost weekly since COVID-19 began, and our group of friends looks forward to connecting each week! Check out:

B Street Theatre in Sacramento adapted quickly and began offering virtual events shortly after COVID began. There are Improv nights, music nights, new play readings, and much more all available via zoom. There is no cost to register but the theatre appreciates any donation and support! Check out:

Most bands, large and small, have begun offering music via live streaming. Music festivals have gone on line – Eventbrite is a great source for searching for various online events, or search for and follow your favorite band or DJ on Instagram or Facebook and get notified when they are live (or have an upcoming live events). Options for finding online events are plentiful, most searches will yield multiple options and ideas. One day, we’ll gather in person safely again, until then and for the foreseeable future, we can gather online.
